Qoyllur Ritty is a Quechua word that means ‘’snow that shines like a star’’. The people here are devoted to Taytacha Qoyllur Ritty (Lord of the Snow Bright). This is an old religious custom practiced only by the inhabitants of the Andes. Each year, a few days before the celebration of Corpus Christi, every small village or clan send a delegation with colorful dancers and “pabluchas’ to the Chapel of the Lord of Qoyllur Ritty. This is situated at the beginning of a mountain called Sinakara in the village of Mawayany, at 4600 meters above sea level. The pabluchas represent alpacas and are intermediaries between the Lord of Qoyllur Ritty and men. The climb to the chapel is carried out at 4 in the morning by the Sinakara herding their animals. During the party the people who participate in the procession of Nuestra Señora de Fatima will have good luck in business, life and future. The end of the procession takes place in the ancient Inca capital of Cusco with the processions of Corpus Christi, streets and squares are filled with people, music and color.
